What is the North Somerset Safeguarding Children Board (NSSCB)?

Previously known as the Area Child Protection Committee (ACPC), it aims to ensure every child and young person within the district grows up free from abuse or neglect.

It is a partnership of all the relevant statutory, voluntary and community agencies involved in safeguarding and promising the welfare of all of North Somerset's children and young people.  It is the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how the relevant children's organisations in North Somerset co-operate to safeguard and promote children and young people's welfare and for ensuring the effectiveness of how they work together.

The North Somerset Safeguarding Children Board (NSSCB) works to safeguard and promote local child welfare.  It does this by:

  • Co-ordinating the safeguarding work of member agencies so that it is effective.
  • Monitoring, evaluating and when necessary, challenging the effectiveness of the work.
  • Advising on ways to improve safeguarding performance.

In order to:

  • Protect children and young people from maltreatment.
  • Prevent their impairment of health and development.
  • Ensure that they grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.
  • Enable them to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully.

The NSSCB meets four times a year asking local organisatios to report on what they are doing to safeguard and promote child welfare and suggests how their services might be improved.

The NSSCB website is the central contact point and primary source of information for all safeguarding matters in North Somerset.
