Training Plan 2010
A new Multi Agency and Support Officer was appointed in April 2009. This post sits within Workforce Development in Children and Young People's Services and is jointly funded by partner agencies of North Somerset Safeguarding Children Board. Since this appointment the training programme in North Somerset has been revised and updated and more courses are now available to meet the high demand for places.
Training Content and Delivery. The core programme of Safeguarding Children Stage One and Two courses will follow the guidance set out in Working Together 2010. The content of courses is updated to take into account learning from Serious Case Reviews and is co-ordinated with other Safeguarding Children Boards in the South West through links with SWIAT (South West Inter Agency Trainers).
The Stage One training is available to the whole children's workforce and is free of charge to partner agencies. Courses run at least once a month and also runs as a two part ervening course for people unable to attend daytime training. Twice a year the course is held on a Saturday. The Stage Two programme is now fully supported by contributions from senior practitioners from the key local agencies. This programme is heavily subscribed as it forms key training for designated persons. There is also an updated programme of ˝ days which has been developed as a refresher for staff who completed Stage Two more than two years asgo. Recruitment to the training pool will continue, particularly of peolple who are willing to deliver basic awareness training to all stasff and act as a consultation point for people with concerns. A number of themed and specialist courses has also been developed with local practitioner groupos.
Safeguarding Children Stage 3 courses currently cover the following areas:
- Parental Mental Illness and the Impact on Children
- Parental Substance Misuse and the Impact on Children
- Domestic Abuse and the Impact on Children
- Effective Participation at Case Conferences
- ESafety
