In line with all Local Authorities, North Somerset follows the National Procedure for dealing with allegations against people who work with children.
This covers both paid and unpaid staff.
It must be used where there are concerns about the behaviour of a person who works with children.
The procedure is a Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) requirement under the statutory guidance section of its Working Together to Safeguard Children publication.
The procedure covers the following types of allegations where a person has:
- Behaved in a way which has harmed or may have harmed a child or young person under the age of 18 years.
- Behaved towards a child or young person in a way which indicates that they are unsuitable to work with children.
- Possibly committed a criminal offence against or related to a child or young person.
For further information and details please download our local Allegations Flowchart and the South West Procedure document.
Our existing Child Protection Procedures have not changed and if you have reason to believe a child is suffering or likely to suffer harm you should refer this to our Child Protection Team or the Police.
